​SAI is mandated to ensure that the federal authorities collect funds in the correct ways, as well as spending public funds in a wise and rational manner. SAI also carries out activities of review and audit operations to ensure that the federal authorities achieve their desired goals. SAI is mandated to exercise its authority on all UAE Federal Government Ministries , authorities and corporations in which the federal government has a minimum share of 25% in its capital.​​
